Elaine Paige to Host 2016 Tony Awards Highlights Special on BBC Radio 2
Big news for British fans of the Tony Awards®!
For the second year, highlights of the June 12 Tony ceremony will air on BBC Radio 2. As part of a partnership begun in 2015, British musical theatre megastar Elaine Paige will host coverage of the 70th Annual Tony Awards in a special program to be broadcast from 8-10pm BST on Friday, June 17, and repeated on Sunday, June 19 at 1:00 p.m. BST. The program will include performances from the Tony ceremony itself.
The Radio 2 special will also feature exclusive behind-the-scenes action from the Tony Awards press room. Elaine Paige – who celebrates the best of Broadway, Hollywood and the West End in her weekly Radio 2 show, “EP on Sunday” (1pm to 3pm) – will be at the Tonys in New York to capture all the action.
As an actress, singer, and producer, Elaine Paige has made such a major contribution to the stage musical that her title as undisputed First Lady of British Musical Theatre remains unchallenged. She has created numerous iconic roles including Eva Peron in Evita. In 1996 Ms. Paige made her Broadway debut in the role of Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard. She has recorded 14 solo albums and earned eight consecutive gold and four multi-platinum albums, and in 1995 she was awarded the OBE for services to musical theatre.
