The Tony Awards and the Hal Leonard Corporation have joined forces to create the first-ever Tony Awards Songbook, which was published in May 2004. Chock full of some of the finest show tunes ever heard on Broadway, the songbook contains a song from each and every production that has received the American Theatre Wing's Tony Award® as Best Musical between 1949 and 2003. The 56 piano/vocal/guitar arrangements are presented in chronological order, beginning with Cole Porter's "So in Love" from Kiss Me, Kate, the first show to win a Best Musical Tony (in 1949, two years after the Tonys were established), right up through "Mamma, I'm a Big Girl Now" from Hairspray, the 2003 winner. Flip through the pages and you will find selections from such Best Musicals as The King and I, Man of La Mancha, A Chorus Line, Annie, The Phantom of the Opera, Rent, and The Producers. There are even two songs from 1960, when Fiorello! and The Sound of Music tied for the prize.

The table of contents is tantamount to a roster of shows written by the finest composers and lyricists ever to work on Broadway. There's Rodgers & Hammerstein ("Some Enchanted Evening" from South Pacific), Lerner & Loewe ("I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face" from My Fair Lady), Frank Loesser ("I Believe in You" from How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying), Jerry Herman (the title song of Hello, Dolly!), Stephen Sondheim ("Send in the Clowns" from A Little Night Music), Kander & Ebb ("Cabaret" from Cabaret), Andrew Lloyd Webber ("Don't Cry for Me, Argentina" from Evita), to name but a few.

In addition to the music, the songbook features a foreword by multiple Tony winner Audra McDonald, an introduction by Ted Chapin, president of the Rodgers & Hammerstein organization, and an assortment of historical Tony photos.
