Three-time Tony Award-winner Nathan Lane stars in a new comedy by Taylor Mac set just after the blood-soaked conclusion of William Shakespeare’s first tragedy, Titus Andronicus. During the fall of the Roman Empire, the years of bloody battles are over. The civil war has ended. The country has been stolen by madmen, and there are casualties everywhere. And two very lowly servants are charged with cleaning up the bodies. It’s the year 400 AD—but it feels like the end of the world.

Trivia

Shakespeare’s early tragedy Titus Andronicus is generally considered the Bard’s bloodiest and most violent work. Though popular in its day, the play fell out of favor and was seldom performed until the 20th century.

Playwright Taylor Mac uses “judy” [lowercase sic] not as a name but as a gender pronoun.
