Trivia

Though it is considered a musical theatre classic and one of the most influential shows ever written, Oklahoma! debuted before the inauguration of the Tony Award in 1947, and thus was never considered for the Best Musical Award. However, in 1993 the Tony Awards presented the show with a special Tony Award in honor of its 50th anniversary.

Oklahoma! is the first Broadway show to join the entertainment industry’s Gun Neutral initiative, which explores ways entertainment companies, individual productions and storytellers can help solve gun violence in America.

History

This production of Oklahoma! as reimagined by director Daniel Fish premiered at Bard College in July 2015. A subsequent staging took place at Brooklyn’s St. Ann’s Warehouse in the fall of 2018 before transferring to Broadway. The Rodgers & Hammerstein musical was first presented on Broadway in 1943 and has previously been revived four times.
